��ɫֱ�� Mississauga alumna Eugenia Addy has been recognized by Life Sciences Ontario with an LSO Award for Community Service.

It’s the latest in a series of honours for Addy, the CEO of Visions of Science Network for Learning, a charitable organization that engages youth from low-income communities in science, technology, engineering and math. An educator, speaker, community organizer and advocate for equity for youth, Addy has also been recognized with the 2020 Science & Technology Award from the Afroglobal Television Excellence Awards as well as the African Scholars Award from ��ɫֱ�� and was named one of RBC’s Women of Influence.

“My journey to STEM was a long, long process and there were many areas that were roadblocks for me,” Addy says. “Luckily, I had really significant people placed at the right times in my life that turned those roadblocks to pathways for me.”

Addy’s connection with ��ɫֱ�� began in high school when a teacher encouraged her to apply to the university's Summer Mentorship Program for Black and Indigenous youth. She went on to earn an honours bachelor degree in chemistry and biology and a PhD in chemistry from the university. While working on her doctoral degree, she received the Harry Jerome CIBC Academics Award from the Black Business and Professional Association (BBPA).
